Toyota looks to invest $3.6bn in Texas plant expansion

About this update from Toyota Motor Corp.

Toyota Motor Corporation will invest $3.6bn to expand its vehicle manufacturing plant in San Antonio, Texas , adding a new assembly line as it shifts production of its Tacoma pickup truck from northern Mexico , Jiji Press reports. Its US subsidiary, Toyota Motor North America , said the expansion will relocate Tacoma production from Baja California to San Antonio and create about 2,000 jobs. Almost all Tacoma pickup trucks are sold in the US. The company said the production transfer reflects its strategy of manufacturing vehicles in the markets where they are sold. Toyota also said the move would help it respond to changes in the trade environment. The investment forms part of the group's plan, announced in 2025, to invest up to $10bn more in the United States . © 2026 bne IntelliNews, source Magazine
