To meet growing demand, Tesla aims to increase weekly car production at the Grünheide plant by 20 per cent to 6,000 units. Despite fluctuations in staffing levels due to sales figures, the Tesla plant in Grünheide has, since its opening in 2022, passed the milestone of more than 750,000 vehicles produced. Tesla is making a major investment in its factory in Grünheide near Berlin , putting 250 million dollars ( 215 million euros ) into the facility and creating more than 1,500 new jobs. The investment underlines Tesla’s commitment to turning the Grünheide plant into its central European hub for electric vehicle production. CEO Elon Musk is aiming for a fully integrated operation by 2027, with both battery production and car assembly taking place on site. To achieve that ambitious goal, Tesla plans to ramp up battery cell production over the coming years to 18 gigawatt-hours. Producing 6,000 cars per week The expansion follows Tesla’s announcement last month that it would recruit 1,000 additional employees in Germany by the end of June. The hiring drive is intended to meet rising demand for Tesla vehicles and to increase production at the Grünheide factory by 20 per cent to 6,000 cars per week. Staff fluctuations The Grünheide plant currently employs around 10,700 people, down from a peak of 12,400 two years ago. This fluctuation in staffing reflects Tesla’s recent experience with volatile sales figures. Even so, the Grünheide factory has reached a major milestone: since opening in 2022, more than 750,000 vehicles have been produced there. The achievement was celebrated on social media platform X by the official Tesla Manufacturing account, which shared a video highlighting the impressive scale of the operation, from huge casting presses to the final assembly line where thousands of Model Y vehicles roll off the line each week.
