The ' Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi ' initiative seeks to integrate India's cultural heritage into modern education that would benefit more than 28,000 students across NDMC-run schools. According to the curriculum document, students will now recite Sanskrit mantras such as the Gayatri Mantra, Saraswati Vandana, Guru Mantra and Shanti Path during daily assemblies. Each has a defined educational purpose - the Gayatri Mantra to enhance concentration and clarity, Saraswati Vandana to cultivate intellectual focus, the Guru Mantra to instil respect for teachers, and the Shanti Path to THE VIKAS BHI, VIRASAT BHI INITIATIVE SEEKS TO INTEGRATE INDIA'S CULTURE INTO MODERN EDUCATION encourage peace and harmony, according to the document. The curriculum notes that chanting mantras fosters mindfulness, positivity and compassion, while teaching humility, discipline and ethical responsibility. It emphasises that education must nurture wisdom and values alongside academic knowledge. Another key feature is the integration of yoga and meditation into the school timetable. Breathing practices like Anulom-Vilom and Bhramari are aimed at boosting lung capacity, immunity and mental focus. Postures including Tadasana, cat-cow stretch and 'Bhujangasana' will be taught to improve flexibility, posture and motor coordination. Mindful meditation techniques such as gratitude reflections, five-senses awareness and body scans are designed to help students regulate emotions, reduce stress and build resilience. The curriculum lists outcomes such as improved concentration, emotional balance, and overall well-being.The programme also expands learning beyond classroom walls. Nature walks, outdoor science labs, gardening and eco-art projects like leaf printing and nature man-dalas are included to connect students with biodiversity and environmental conservation. According to the document, arithmetic will be taught by counting leaves and measuring garden spaces, while science classes will involve observing plants, birds and insects. Literature and art will draw inspiration from natural surroundings. "Learning beyond walls, wisdom beyond books" is described as a guiding principle of this approach. At its core, the curriculum revives the Guru-Shishya Parampara model, promoting respect for teachers and mentorship among peers. A house system based on great gurus - Dronacharya (discipline), Vyasa (wisdom), Charaka (health) and Vashishtha (righteousness) - will instil values through collective activities. The curriculum also highlights inclusivity, with buddy programmes pairing differ-ently-abled and mainstream students, as well as intergen-erational learning. Elderly citizens will be invited to share stories, skills and life lessons, while students will introduce them to modern tools and technologies. A 10-week Swachhta module forms another pillar of the programme. Students will practise waste segregation, water conservation, and plastic reduction through hands-on activities such as clean classroom competitions, poster-making and plantation drives. They will also be introduced to hygiene drills, food safety and eco-friendly alternatives like making cloth bags from old garments. The " Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi " document underlines that the initiative is aligned with the National Education Policy 2020 and NCERT syllabus, while drawing inspiration from India's traditional wisdom. By combining yoga, mantras, nature learning and values of humanity with modern subjects and skills, NDMC aims to create "responsible, confident and culturally rooted citizens". the National Democratic Teachers Front (NDTF) has been elected Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) president, securing 3,3GG votes. He defeated professor Rajib Ray of the Democratic Teachers Front (DTF), who polled 2,728 votes and professor Rajesh K Jha of the Academics for Action and Development Delhi Teachers' Association (AADTA), who secured 1,420 votes. Other candidates included professor Kamlesh Kr Raghuvanshi (451 votes), Sandeep (14), and professor Sanjay Mohan Marale (10). Of the 8,221 votes polled, 7,ψ8ψ were declared valid and 232 invalid. Voting for the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) elections witnessed an enthusiastic response on Thursday, with 8,221 of the ψ,8G1 eligible teachers casting their votes. This marked a turnout of 84 per cent, marginally lower than the 85.85 per cent recorded in 2023. Delhi Police arrests two for aiding ₹ 6.4 crore stock market fraud PIONEER NEWS SERVICE n New Delhi Two men were arrested for allegedly facilitating a multi-crore stock market scam by providing their bank accounts to interstate cyber criminals. The accused, Mohammad Asim Ali Khan from Uttarakhand and Rushikesh Jaywant Kamble from Maharashtra, acted as "pro-fessional account providers" for organised cybercrime networks that duped investors with fake IPO funding and high-return stock market investment schemes, police said. According to the police, victims were lured through social media groups into downloading fake trading applications and then con- vinced to transfer large sums of money. The investors funds were routed through layered bank accounts - a method used to launder money through several bank accounts to make the original source difficult to trace. "Whenever victims sought withdrawals, the fraudsters used to block them. The syndicate had cheated investors of nearly ₹ G.40 crore. The arrests have disrupted financial channels that were being used by cyber syndicates to launder money collected through fraudulent investment schemes," the official said. Police said in one case, registered at the Special Cell, a complainant alleged of being duped of ₹ 5.ψ3 crore. A technical probe revealed that at least 33 first-layer accounts were used to siphon the money. Among them was the bank details linked to accused Asim Ali Khan, through which transactions worth ₹ GG lakh were facilitated. His account was found linked with eight National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP) complaints. In another case, registered at Cyber East police station, a complainant alleged of being cheated of Rs 4G.GG lakh. Investigations revealed eight first-layer accounts, including those operated by Kamble, who allegedly handled fraudulent transactions of ₹ G.71 lakh. His two accounts were linked to as many as 78 NCRP complaints, police said. During interrogation, both men admitted to repeatedly opening bank accounts and handing over full access, cheque books, ATM cards, internet banking credentials and SIM cards, to their handlers for a commission. "These accounts were vital for receiving and layering fraud proceeds, thereby shielding the masterminds of the racket from direct detection," a police officer said. Investigators found that Khan was earlier booked in a cybercrime case in Kurukshetra in Haryana, while Kamble was involved in a case with the Cyber Crime Detective Department in Hyderabad. Their background estab- lished them as repeat offenders and trusted facilitators, police added. Police further said that several more accounts linked to the racket have been identified. Efforts are underway to freeze them and trace the handlers and other co-accused. Further investigation is underway. Pilot held for secretly filming woman in market PIONEER NEWS SERVICE n New Delhi A 31-year-old private airline pilot was arrested by the Delhi Police for allegedly filming objectionable videos of a woman using a hidden spy camera. The Delhi Police said the pilot, identified as Mohit Priyadarshi, was arrested by the staff of Kishangarh police station in South West District, a resident of the Civil Lines area in Agra (Uttar Pradesh). According to police, they have recovered a lighter-shaped device fitted with a hidden camera from his possession. He was arrested by the personnel of the Kishangarh police station in Delhi's South West District following a complaint registered on August 30 by a woman. The police said Priyadarshi has admitted to his crime and stated that he had been making such videos to satisfy "his personal grat-ification". Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said he allegedly used lighter-shaped spy camera to film videos of unsuspecting women. A case under sections 77 (voyeurism) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was registered at Kishangarh police station, and an investigation was taken up. The incident reportedly took place at the Shani Bazar when the accused allegedly attempted to record the complainant without her consent using a hidden camera. According to the woman's complaint, while at the market, she spotted a man pointing what looked like a lighter at her. Suspicious, she realised he was actually trying to record her without consent. During the investigation, CCTV from the area was thoroughly reviewed, and the suspect's image was circulated among police networks.
