Sumitomo Electric Industries : Executive Conference of EMEA 2026

The week of June 29, I visited Germany to attend a regional event called the Sumitomo Electric Executive Conference of EMEA and to visit group companies there. The conference was a two-day event attended by more than 60 people, including executives from our companies in the region as well as from Japan. We heard presentations from local companies on their business opportunities and challenges, as well as reports from the people in charge of intercompany committees and from individuals who are working on topics that affect the entire organization, such as sustainability. Because the Sumitomo Electric Group's operations span many different markets and locations across the region, we wish to address issues that are common to multiple companies by leveraging the Group's collective strength and allocating resources effectively. On a personal level, the conference was a valuable opportunity for me to interact with many of the attendees and to hear directly from local executives. This included executives from Esteves, which joined the Sumitomo Electric Group in 2024, and Sumitomo Riko, which became a wholly-owned subsidiary this year. I also spoke with the individuals who had been appointed Group Global Executives since the last time I attended this conference two years ago. In recent times, the Group's EMEA operations have been experiencing a period of dynamic transformation due to factors such as the automotive industry's shift to electrification and the expansion of our businesses that serve the renewable energy and data center markets. It's my hope that our Group will rise to the challenge, relying not only our collective strength but also through the support of parent divisions in Japan and the leadership of the executives I met at this conference.
