STRABAG is building the fast charging network for electric trucks in Germany

· Issued by Strabag Se

STRABAG, together with eLoaded and R:loaded, has secured a major contract (Lot 4) for the nationwide truck fast-charging network of Autobahn GmbH.

A total of 140 charging points will be installed at 25 unstaffed motorway rest areas in southern and western Germany.

STRABAG combines its expertise in energy infrastructure construction with the technical experience of its partners in the fields of energy networks and electromobility.

New charging system as a key technology

All locations will offer fast charging capabilities thanks to modern systems. With the fastest charging class, the so-called Megawatt Charging System (MCS), electric trucks can charge significantly faster than before, with a charging capacity of 2,500 kilowatts. While this technology is currently the exception, it is expected to become a key technology for electric heavy-duty transport in the future, enabling not only high charging power but also high efficiency.

Charging infrastructure program commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Transport

STRABAG is responsible for constructing the fast-charging stations, eLoaded contributes its expertise in supplying and planning the infrastructure systems, and the startup R:loaded is responsible for operation until mid-2034 and for managing the sites. The project is part of the nationwide charging infrastructure program of Autobahn GmbH, commissioned by the Federal Ministry of Transport. A total of 863 charging points are to be installed at 124 locations across Germany, thus creating a reliable electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Lot 4 is scheduled for completion in 2030.
