Stockland : Altona Industrial Estate achieves 5 Star Green Star Certification

Link to video In a first for a Stockland multi-building industrial development, and only a second for Victoria, Stockland's Altona Industrial Estate has been awarded a 5 Star Green Star Certification from the Green Building Council of Australia. The four new architecturally designed warehouses and office facilities, which opened in April 2025, span more than 46,000 square metres and have added much-needed industrial space in Melbourne's inner west. The estate is now fully tenanted, with seven businesses moving into the 5 Star Green Star buildings including: global construction equipment manufacturer Putzmeister; renewable energy company Krannich Solar; commercial catering equipment provider Comcater; Mojo Motorcycles; agricultural supplier Pony Xpress; and Prysmian Group, a global leader in energy and telecommunications cable systems. Stockland Executive General Manager Logistics, Tony D'Addona, said the certification for the Altona Industrial Estate reflects Stockland's commitment to environmentally responsible industrial design. "Achieving a 5 Star Green Star rating across a multi-building industrial precinct is a significant milestone for Stockland. It reflects the long-term commitment we've made to delivering industrial estates that combine operational efficiency with environmental responsibility," Mr D'Addona said. "Our customers are increasingly seeking well-designed, energy-efficient facilities that help them reduce operating costs and support their sustainability targets. Altona Industrial Estate shows what's possible when we embed this thinking from the ground up." Green Building Council of Australia CEO, Davina Rooney, said these are exactly the types of projects that will help lift the sustainability and resilience of Australia's industrial sector. "Every year we're seeing more tenants seeking industrial space that is built for the future, well located and designed with people in mind - Altona Industrial Estate ticks all these boxes," Ms Rooney said. "We commend Stockland for delivering these high quality, architecturally designed warehouses and offices to the market and are proud to see developments like this setting a new benchmark for modern industrial precincts." The environmental features at the Altona Industrial Estate include: 1.4 MW of rooftop solar; energy efficient LED lighting; rainwater collection for irrigation; water and energy metering systems; and sustainably sourced timber products were used during construction. The project achieved a 22% reduction in embodied carbon and a 95% waste diversion rate. Altona Industrial Estate is located within Melbourne's inner-western logistics corridor close to the Port of Melbourne and key arterial road links including the Princes Freeway, Westgate Freeway and Western Ring Road.
