SCREEN Holdings Co., Ltd. (SCREEN HD, President and CEO: Masato Goto) has acquired shares in Atomis Inc. (headquarters: Kobe, Japan; Representative Director and CEO: Daisuke Asari), a startup which develops metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), through the underwriting of a new third-party allotment.
Atomis is a promising startup from Kyoto University which leads the commercialization and practical application of MOFs, based on the research achievement of Nobel Laureate and Distinguished Professor of Chemistry Susumu Kitagawa. Its business includes customized design and low-cost production of MOFs, leveraging its proprietary synthesis methods, as well as sales and marketing of these products, both in and outside Japan. MOFs are gathering attention as next-generation material for separating, absorbing, and recovering various types of gases including atmospheric components. They are researched worldwide to achieve a breakthrough in decarbonization and energy saving.
Through this investment, SCREEN intends to work more closely with Atomis to improve the performance and competitiveness of our products that use MOFs. Atomis aims to address environmental and energy issues by controlling gases, while SCREEN leverages surface control and processing technologies* to develop various businesses and solutions. By combining the strengths of the two companies, we seek to create new value in addressing issues facing the global community.
