Rheinmetall has secured a contract worth more than 500 million euros from the German army for the delivery of 149 mobile rescue stations. These units, which include both armoured and unarmoured versions, are intended to provide emergency care at the front. Production is expected to start at the beginning of 2027.

Modular infrastructure

The structure of each station consists of two separate containers that can operate independently of each other or as a combined unit. To ensure uninterrupted operation for several days without external support, both modules are equipped with their own air conditioning and power generators. The design includes a redundancy measure whereby one functioning generator can supply power to the entire facility if the other fails.

Lessons from Ukraine

Based on strategic insights from the conflict in Ukraine, which highlighted the crucial need for flexibility in medical logistics, the systems are designed for rapid deployment. A team of four people can quickly assemble or dismantle the units.

The interior consists of an extensive accident and emergency department and four additional treatment rooms, with medical equipment mounted on adjustable rails to allow tailored configurations based on operational requirements.

Logistical versatility in rough terrain

To facilitate deployment in rugged environments, Rheinmetall has developed a specialised lifting mechanism, enabling the stations to be transported by various military vehicles.

Fleet expansion

The most recent purchase follows a framework agreement concluded at the end of 2024, under which 16 units were initially acquired – six standard and ten with ballistic protection. With the new delivery, the total number of ordered medical stations rises to 165.

This development reflects similar capabilities seen in the Ukrainian army’s use of Stabnet stabilisation points, which allow intensive care facilities to be relocated rapidly in line with changing conditions on the battlefield.
