Resolute Mining (ASX/LSE:RSG), an Australia-listed gold producer focused on Africa, has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with Nimba Mining Company (NMC) to explore gold opportunities in Guinea, with backing from the country’s Ministry of Mines and Geology.
The agreement will see the partners jointly assess mineral resources, conduct geological studies and develop frameworks for potential large-scale gold production, targeting one of West Africa’s most prospective gold regions.
The MoU marks state-owned NMC’s first collaboration with an internationally listed gold company and aligns with Guinea’s push to diversify its mining sector beyond bauxite under the Simandou 2040 programme.
“This partnership with Resolute will allow NMC to launch its gold projects in accordance with the State's guidelines indicated in the Simandou 2040 Program and the vision of the Ministry of Mines and Geology as NMC's technical supervisor,” said NMC CEO Patrice L'Huillier.
“Choosing the option of co-developing mining projects with Resolute will strengthen the share of local content in Guinea's mining ecosystem,” he added.
Resolute CEO Chris Eger said the company sees Guinea as a potential growth hub within its West African portfolio.
“We are delighted to have been selected by NMC and the Guinean Government for the co-development of gold projects in Guinea. This partnership reflects our commitment to invest in Guinea – a jurisdiction that we believe has the potential for Resolute to develop a fourth mine – and to share value with all stakeholders for sustainable projects,” he said.
“Our teams remain mobilized for the evaluation of areas of interest with high potential in collaboration with the NMC teams and the support of the Ministry of Mines and Geology.”
Resolute said the partnership complements its existing exploration footprint in Guinea, including a reconnaissance authorisation covering 83km² in the Siguiri Basin.
The companies aim to complete a preliminary assessment of identified areas within 90 days of signing the MoU, with a potential joint venture structure to be considered subject to technical studies, binding agreements and regulatory approvals.
