Quebec Cartier Mining Announces Retirement of CEO Guy Dufresne, Management Changes

HAMILTON, ON, Oct. 24 /CNW/ - Quebec Cartier Mining Company announced
today that Guy Dufresne will retire as President and Chief Executive Officer
of QCM, effective October 31, 2006.
Jacques Chabanier, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dofasco Inc.
has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of QCM, as of October 31, 2006. QCM
is a subsidiary of Dofasco.
Francois Pelletier has been appointed Chief Operating Officer of QCM,
effective October 31, 2006, and in this capacity he will report to Mr.
Chabanier. Mr. Pelletier joined QCM in 1976, advancing through management
positions in accounting, information technology and treasury, until being
appointed Vice President Human Resources in 1989. In that role, in 1995 Mr.
Pelletier's responsibilities grew to include corporate planning. He was
appointed Vice President Operations Management of QCM in 1997.
As Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Pelletier will directly oversee QCM's
Mining Operations, Commercial, Technology and Human Resources activities.
QCM's Finance and Legal functions will report directly to Mr. Chabanier.
In making this announcement, Mr. Chabanier said, "The QCM Board wishes
Guy a well-deserved and successful retirement. He leaves a legacy of
leadership in the international mining community, through his role at the helm
of QCM, one of Canada's largest mining operations."
Mr. Chabanier added, "QCM is well positioned to sustain its strong
position as a profitable supplier of iron ore products with the continuity of
strong management, a solid mining plan and positive market conditions".

Company currently operates at Mont-Wright in QuDebec, one of the largest
open-pit mines in North America. The mine is linked by railway to the

productive in the world - are located.
