Philippines' Petron plans jet fuel storage expansion

· Issued by Petron Corp.

Petron Corp. intends to expand fuel storage capacities at its Limay terminal in Bataan, the Philippine energy firm announced on June 10, Power Philippines reports. The company is prioritising additional storage for jet fuel and biodiesel to tackle ongoing supply reliability concerns and rising local demand.

The rising investment in logistics follows a surge in regional transport activity and highlights the critical need for infrastructure upgrades. Expanding local storage helps insulate the Philippine domestic market from sudden global supply chain disruptions and ensures compliance with state bio-fuel mandates.

The project focuses on building a single 25,000-barrel capacity storage tank for Jet A-1 fuel. Petron will also build three coconut methyl ester (CME) storage units with a combined volume of 48,000 litres.

Petron started the Environmental Impact Assessment process to amend its Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) for the Limay hub. It finished an initial information campaign in late March and scheduled public scoping activities for June 17.

The Bataan terminal is a vital distribution point of Jet A-1 fuel to local airports. The new tank will increase total days of aviation fuel supply at the terminal, protecting operations during peak demand periods. The CME facilities will ensure a consistent supply of biodiesel to meet state-mandated blending quotas.

Construction work on the storage tanks is scheduled to start in late 2026. Petron aims to complete the infrastructure by early 2028.

The final investment value is still undecided. Petron will finalise total funding and secure internal corporate approvals after it obtains the ECC. The enterprise will fund the project using cash generated from operations.
