The company recently announced the
completion of its new clinical trials plan to test the effects of NK-001 in the
treatment of Alzheimer's type memory loss in patients undergoing coronary artery
bypass graft (CABG) surgery. The plan will be to carry out clinical trials in 50
patients following CABG surgery and to test these patients for up to 12 months
following surgery for cognitive impairment (similar to Alzheimer's). The
patients will be divided in 2 groups; 25 will receive NK-001 and 25 will receive
placebo.
The clinical trials will be
carried out in 4 to 6 sites with cardiosurgery and psychiatry expertise in
Europe and expected to complete within 12 to 18 months. The company expects to
finalize site selection and contract with its designated clinical investigation
group in the next 4 to 6 weeks.
Neurokine is developing
proprietary encapsulation technology to allow better blood brain barrier
penetration to initiate and enhance therapeutic effects of anti-inflammatory
drugs in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
Corcept Therapeutics
(CORT)
Corcept is a pharmaceutical
company engaged in the discovery and development of drugs for the treatment of
severe metabolic and psychiatric disorders.
Pluristem Therapeutics
(PSTI)
The Company is developing a
pipeline of products, stored ready-to-use, that are derived from human placenta,
a non-controversial, non-embryonic, adult stromal cell source.
Inhibitex, Inc.
(INHX)
The Company's research and
development efforts are currently focused on small molecule antiviral compounds,
and in particular, orally-available therapies to treat herpes zoster, also
referred to as shingles, and chronic infections caused by HCV.
