TORONTO, Aug. 8 /CNW/ - Kim Harris, Chief Executive Officer of Midlands
Minerals Corporation ("Midlands" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the
Company is preparing to commence drilling on the Itilima Project in Tanzania
in the fourth quarter of 2006. In preparation for drilling, the Company has
been undertaking a detailed Metal Mobil Ion ("MMI") geochemistry program on
PL 1406 and PL 2043. The Company will shortly be reporting on MMI soil
geochemistry being conducted on the adjoining PL 2043. The work program is
designed and supervised by Marc Boisvert P. Eng.
Results from this detailed survey on PL 1406 will assist Midlands in
selecting drill location sites along previously detected soil geochemical
anomalies. On PL 1406, the work program entails three detailed grids with
lines spaced at 100 metres and sampling stations along the line at 20 metre
intervals. Two grids, the main Itilima Grid and the Itilima West Grid, are
covering two anomalous areas bordering both sides of a diorite sill over a
strike length of 3 to 4 kilometres. The third grid is covering an anomalous
gold area coinciding with an iron rich dyke taking place along a NE structural
lineament.
A total of 2157 samples were collected along 57 kilometres of grid lines
on PL 1406. Samples have been prepared at the SGS laboratories in Mwanza,
Tanzania and are being shipped to the SGS Laboratory in Canada for analysis of
gold plus four pathfinder elements (Co, Ni, Pb, Ag) using the "Mobile Metal
Ions" (MMI-B5) procedure.
The first 600 sample batch was delivered to the SGS laboratory in Mwanza,
Tanzania, and results are expected in August and September 2006. The Company
is targeting November 2006 for commencement of the next phase of drilling for
gold on the Itilima Project.
The Itilima Project is located in the Lake Victoria Goldfields, an area
with over 40 million ounces of known gold reserves. Gold mines in the area
include Barrick Gold's Bulyanhulu, AngloGold Ashanti's Geita and Resolute
Mining's Golden Pride. Previous RC drilling done in 2004 also confirmed the
presence of diamondiferous kimberlites on the Itilima Project.
