TORONTO, March 2 /CNW/ - Kim Harris, Chief Executive Officer, Midlands
Minerals Corporation ("Midlands" or the "Company") is pleased to announce
results from the Mobil Metal Ions "MMI" geochemical soil sampling survey done
at the Itilima property located in Lake Victoria Goldfields in Tanzania. The
survey covers Prospecting Licence (PL) 2043, the eastern part of the Itilima
property.
Results reveal discovery of a geochemical gold anomalous area located
5 km east of Itilima artisanal site where previous exploration work was
concentrated. This new soil anomalous area increases the number of drill
targets on the Itilima property. The MMI survey was carried out in the last
quarter of 2005 on Prospecting Licence 2043 to evaluate the gold potential
near felsic quartz eyes intrusives discovered by Midlands during earlier
property mapping on the property.
The technical program was designed and supervised by Marc Boisvert,
P. Eng. The program consisted of "Mobile Metal Ion" (MMI) geochemical soil
sampling over an 18 km2 area of the licence PL 2043 and was carried out as a
reconnaissance survey to evaluate the gold endowment of the area.
The reconnaissance survey collected 609 samples including 17 field
duplicates to check field and laboratory procedures. The sampling was
conducted at 400 meter line spacing and 80 metre intervals. Samples were
prepared at the SGS laboratories in Mwanza, Tanzania and shipped to the
SGS Laboratory in Canada for analysis of gold plus four pathfinder elements
(Co, Ni, Pb, Ag) using the "Mobile Metal Ions" (MMI-B5) procedure.
Results in MMI surveys are reported as ratios of a site gold value to the
value of the 25th percentile of the survey population. The 25th percentile is
considered a low background. Ratios above the 75th percentile are the high
background. The threshold is set at the 90th percentile. Anomalous results are
in the 95th to 97.5 percentile range. Highly anomalous results are above the
97.5% percentile.

The distribution of gold ratio values is delineating a 2 km by 3 km area
forming a cluster of high percentile gold ration values above the
75 percentile. Within the cluster envelope, 2 areas of anomalous gold ratio
values above 90 percentile are outlined in its center. The anomalous area is
centered over a felsic quartz eyes rock unit interpreted by Midlands as a
felsic shallow intrusive taking place near the contact between volcanics
basalt and meta-sediments phyllite.
This new anomalous area is located 5 km east of previously reported MMI
anomalies (press release of January 16, 2006). Background values and anomalous
ratio values compare well with the previous Itilima area in the MMI
reconnaissance survey results from work done in 2004.
The discovery of this new gold bearing area doubles the number of
exploration targets on the property Itilima.
Kim Harris says field work is expected to commence in April 2006. "The
plan is to conduct an infill MMI program on PL 2043 to confirm the results and
identify drill targets". The infill MMI survey will locate with more
precision, the distribution of high anomalous values, their continuity and
orientation. Specific selected high anomalies will be detailed with MMI line
profiles to permit the exact location of the drill holes.
