The refurbishment of the resort is designed to enhance profitability and asset value while elevating the guest experience through upgraded facilities and operational improvements In recent years, the Company, together with its partners and co-investors, has invested €1 billion in the repositioning of 90 strategically important hotels
Meliá Hotels International has invested €50 million in the repositioning of Paradisus Cancún, a project that forms part of its global strategy to enhance and actively manage its hotel assets. Through this transformation, the Company aims to strengthen the competitive positioning of one of its flagship resorts in Mexico, increase profitability, and unlock greater long-term strategic value.
The project reflects Meliá's disciplined capital allocation approach and its focus on selectively investing in strategic assets with strong potential for value enhancement. The renovation enables the Company to further elevate Paradisus Cancún in line with Meliá's distinctive premium and luxury hospitality proposition, maximizing the performance and value of the asset over time.
"At Meliá, we believe in the potential of our assets and in our ability to generate sustainable, long-term growth through strategic investment. The €50 million investment in Paradisus Cancún will allow us to further enhance the guest experience, strengthen the resort's profitability and long-term value, and continue contributing to the development of Quintana Roo by supporting employment and economic activity within the local community. It is a clear example of our commitment to investing in the hotels where we can create the greatest value, both for our business and for the destinations in which we operate," said Gabriel Escarrer, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Meliá Hotels International.
Active Asset Management Driving Growth and ProfitabilityThe investment in Paradisus Cancún is part of a broader repositioning strategy that Meliá is implementing alongside hotel owners and co-investment partners. In recent years, the Company has transformed more than 90 hotels, channeling close to €1 billion into upgrading and enhancing their value.
Notable examples include Villa Le Blanc Gran Meliá in Menorca, Paradisus resorts in the Canary Islands, and ZEL Mallorca, which multiplied its revenue fivefold during its first season following repositioning. These success stories highlight the strong potential of Meliá's asset enhancement strategy to drive hotel performance and profitability. Across all projects, the objective remains the same: to elevate quality standards and the guest experience in ways that translate into sustained financial results and greater long-term returns.
Supporting the Economic and Sustainable Development of the DestinationThe renovation also aims to deepen the resort's contribution to the development of Quintana Roo and its economy through stronger partnerships with local suppliers, professional development opportunities for employees, the creation of more than 650 indirect jobs, and experiences that connect guests with the region's culture, natural heritage, and traditions. As Escarrer noted during the inauguration: "With this investment, we are building on the remarkable legacy my father established when he opened this hotel in 1986. His first venture into the Mexican Caribbean reflected a vision of growth that went hand in hand with social development and the preservation of the region's exceptional natural environment, a commitment we continue to uphold today."
On the environmental front, the resort's sea turtle conservation programme has protected more than 175,000 eggs over the past three years, while engaging both guests and employees in awareness and education initiatives. These efforts are complemented by energy and water efficiency measures, as well as comprehensive waste recycling programmes. This commitment has been recognised through the 2026 Ecostars Bronze certification and the Socially Responsible Company distinction.
