Lotus Resources produces first yellowcake at Kayelekera mine in Malawi as ramp-up progresses

Lotus Resources (ASX:LOT) said it has produced its first yellowcake from the Kayelekera Mine in Malawi , marking what the company described as its transition from developer to uranium producer. The milestone was achieved during the September 2025 quarter. Lotus said the project remains on schedule and within budget. Yellowcake is a powdery material produced during the first stage of uranium ore processing. The company said the processing plant at Kayelekera is fully commissioned and that ramp-up to steady-state production has begun. Lotus added that it is targeting full mining operations in Q4 2025, with equipment mobilisation under way. Lotus said refurbishment of the acid plant is progressing, with completion targeted for Q1 2026. It added that connection to Malawi’s national power grid is planned by end-2026, describing the link as a company objective intended to lower diesel use and reduce operating emissions. The company reported continued progress at the Letlhakane Uranium Project in Botswana , where it has planned up to 12,000m of reverse-circulation drilling and 1,500m of diamond drilling as part of the development work. Lotus said test work conducted with ANSTO had validated a low-acid processing flowsheet for Letlhakane, reducing acid consumption by about 70% with what the company described as minimal impact on recovery. The flowsheet will be incorporated into ongoing optimisation studies. The company said its financial position remains strong, reporting A$96.7mn in cash, excluding restricted funds, alongside a recently completed A$65mn equity raise. Lotus added that it had recorded zero lost-time injuries, citing the figure as part of its latest operating update. At Kayelekera, the expansion of the Tailings Storage Facility is continuing. Lotus said the design is aligned with ANCOLD and GISTM global standards and forms part of long-term plans to support the mine’s operational requirements.
