Kenya Airways (NSE:KQ) has signed a codeshare agreement with U.S.-based low-cost carrier JetBlue Airways to increase travel options between East Africa and major U.S. cities.
Under the partnership, the Kenyan flag carrier will place its flight code on JetBlue services operating from JFK International Airport in New York to US destinations including Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Orlando, Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale.
The arrangement builds on Kenya Airways’ existing direct service between Nairobi and New York through its hub at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
The codeshare comes as U.S.–Kenya travel grows steadily. Kenya welcomed over 306,500 American visitors in 2024, making the U.S. the largest single source of international tourists, according to Business Radar, while bilateral trade reached $737mn in exports the same year.
Commenting on the partnership, Kenya Airways Acting Group Managing Director and CEO, Captain George Kamal, said: “This codeshare agreement with JetBlue represents a significant step forward in advancing our global growth strategy through meaningful and strategic partnerships. By expanding our network through New York, we are providing our customers with more choice and seamless access to key destinations across the United States.”
Dave Jehn, vice president of network planning and airline partnerships, JetBlue, said, “We’re proud to collaborate with Kenya Airways to better connect customers to East Africa and beyond.”
Kenya Airways operates a mixed fleet that includes six Boeing 787-8s for long-haul routes, eight 737-800s and four Embraer E190s for regional flights. It is a member of the SkyTeam global airline alliance and relies on strategic partnerships to broaden its international network.
JetBlue Airways, a US-based low-cost carrier founded in 1999, primarily operates domestic and Caribbean flights but has expanded into transatlantic services in recent years.
