Italian market regulator Consob said it had granted UniCredit the 30-day suspension of its buyout bid for Banco BPM the bank had sought in response to conditions the government has imposed on the offer.

Italy's biggest insurer posted a higher profit for the first quarter, as it prepares to review a bid from its biggest investor Mediobanca MIL:MB to acquire the group's private banking unit Banca Generali MIL:BGN.

The merger deal with Norwegian peer Subsea7 OSL:SUBC could be signed around mid-year, Italian daily Milano Finanza reported on Thursday citing an analist report. In February, the two companies said the combination would create a leading European supplier of onshore and offshore energy services.
