Customer news IAG ready to support customers impacted by Tropical Cyclone Narelle 18 March, 2026 2 Share this story: IAG Natural Perils and Major Event Response teams tracking Cyclone Narelle from the 24/7 Major Event Command Centre, 18 March 2026. IAG, whose brands include NRMA Insurance, RACQ Insurance, CGU, WFI Insurance and ROLLiN', is ready to support customers who may be impacted by Tropical Cyclone Narelle and urged residents to prepare their homes while it is safe to do so. IAG Meteorologist Kathryn Turner said IAG's 24/7 Major Event Response and Natural Perils teams are tracking the system, which is set to make landfall in Queensland on Friday, before travelling across the Northern Territory over the weekend and reaching Western Australia next week. We're currently in the peak of cyclone season, and Tropical Cyclone Narelle may intensify into a category 5 system before it makes landfall across the Far North Queensland's Cape York on Friday. Kathryn Turner IAG Meterologist "Cyclones of this intensity can bring abnormally high tides, destructive winds of up to 200 kilometres per hour, and intense rainfall that may lead to flash flooding. Destructive winds pose a significant danger to people, homes and critical infrastructure." IAG is utilising its Situation Awareness Map (SAM) technology, which combines real-time hazard intelligence with customer data to predict potential impacts and mobilise claims consultants, assessors and the repair network. IAG Executive General Manager Claims Luke Gallagher said North Queensland residents face a critical few days and urged communities to prepare for the extreme weather ahead. Safety should be the number one priority for people potentially in the pathway of the cyclone. Check on your neighbours, have an emergency plan in place, and make sure you have a plan for pets. Always follow the advice of emergency services and stay up to date with the latest information. Luke Gallagher IAG Executive General Manager Claims "To help prepare your property for extreme weather, we encourage people to clear gutters, downpipes and drains to prevent rainwater overflow into their homes. "Preparedness is our best defence. While it is still safe to do so, take simple steps around your home that can help minimise damage. "Secure loose backyard items to reduce the risk of strong winds lifting outdoor furniture and trampolines, trim overhanging trees and branches around your home, and clean up debris around your property. "IAG's Claims team will provide immediate support to customers impacted by the extreme weather."
