India clears Honda's acquisition of Hitachi's stake in Astemo

About this update from Toyota Motor Corp.

India's competition regulator has approved a cross-border automotive components transaction that deepens Honda Motor's control over Astemo, a Japanese auto parts manufacturer in which Honda already holds a significant position, as the global automotive supply chain continues to consolidate around key technology and component platforms. According to a press release by the Competition Commission of India (CCI), it granted clearance for Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (TYO:7267) to acquire a 21% voting interest in Astemo, Ltd. from Hitachi, Ltd. (TYO:6501). The transaction transfers Hitachi's stake to Honda, reconfiguring the ownership structure of a jointly controlled entity that currently has Honda, Hitachi and JICC-01 Investment Business Limited Partnership as co-owners. Astemo was originally incorporated in 2009 and underwent a merger and integration in 2021, bringing together automotive component operations across braking systems, chassis technology and electrification components. In India , Astemo manufactures and distributes automotive parts for both automobiles and two-wheelers, sells components for power products and conducts ancillary research and development. Honda's India operations span automobile and two-wheeler manufacturing and sales, automotive component production and research and development activities. The acquisition of additional voting interest in Astemo strengthens Honda's influence over a supplier that manufactures components consumed across Honda's own production lines, a vertical integration dynamic that reduces supply chain exposure while deepening Honda's technology control over electrification and chassis systems. © 2026 bne IntelliNews, source Magazine
