The grid-forming energy storage delivered by Merus Power in Valkeakoski. Merus Power has implemented the first grid-forming energy storage system in the Nordics for its Swiss customer, Alpiq. The 30 MW / 36 MWh energy storage facility commissioned in Valkeakoski meets Fingrid’s requirements for large grid-forming energy storage systems. The technology’s functionality has been verified and approved by Fingrid through simulations and rigorous field testing. Grid-forming energy storages can independently support the grid in case of faults and disturbances. The system strengthens grid stability and enables a higher share of renewable energy in the power system. n “We are proud that Merus Power has implemented the first grid-forming energy storage system in the Nordics. The customer for the project is a Swiss energy company Alpiq, for which this is also the first grid-forming energy storage project.
