ICOP SECURES THREE NEW MICROTUNNELLING PROJECTS
WORTH OVER 20 MILLION EUROS
Projects in the areas of Catania, Rimini, and the Province of Macerata
to be executed using microtunnelling technology, where ICOP is a market leader
Basiliano (Udine), 9 October 2024 - ICOP S.p.A. Società Benefit, a leading company in underground engineering and one of the foremost operators in special foundations and microtunnelling across Europe, announces the awarding of three significant national infrastructure projects, with a total value exceeding 20
million euros.
These projects, involving the railway network in Catania, drainage systems in Rimini, and gas transportation in the Province of Macerata, highlight ICOP's high level of technical expertise and established leadership in executing complex and strategic national works through the use of microtunnelling technology.
In Rimini, ICOP has been tasked with the construction of a sewer collector as part of a project aimed at mitigating flood risks. The intervention is designed to reduce the risk of flooding by diverting stormwater upstream of the city center towards a channel, easing the burden on the urban drainage system. The use of
microtunnelling will help minimize the social and environmental impact of the project in a densely
populated area. The project is expected to be completed within 18 months.
Additionally, ICOP will take part in the construction of a section of the Recanati-Folignogas pipeline, which passes through the Province of Macerata. The work, located in a hilly and mountainous area of the Apennines, includes six crossings using microtunnelling technology, one of which spans more than 1 km. This project will be key to strengthening the gas transportation network, with an expected duration of 18 months.
Finally, as part of the Catania railway node works, where ICOP is already involved in foundation works for the modification of the railway infrastructure to allow the extension of the Fontanarossa airport runway, microtunnelling will be used for the underground installation of a pipeline without interfering with the
railway tracks.
"Our participation in these projects confirms our ability to offer innovative and sustainable solutions in challenging contexts, rewarding our leadership in microtunnelling technology, which allows for the execution of complex infrastructure works without resorting to traditional open-cut excavations, significantly reducing environmental and social impacts" said Piero Petrucco, CEO of ICOP. "Our priority is to continue combining advanced technology, environmental protection, and safety, driving the underground engineering and infrastructure sector toward an efficient, effective, and sustainable future."
