HONOLULU, Sept. 11, 2026 - Hawaiian Electric is monitoring the development of Tropical Storm Norbert as it moves across the Pacific while also supporting the restoration of electric service on Kauai. While Norbert is not expected to approach Hawaii until next week, Hawaiian Electric is closely monitoring forecasts and preparing to activate its emergency response procedures to respond to any storm impacts.

Support for Kauai
An advance team from Hawaiian Electric arrived on Kauai on Thursday to plan for the arrival of additional staff, equipment and vehicles to support efforts by the Kauai Island Utility Cooperative (KIUC) to repair damage caused by Hurricane Lowell. Hawaiian Electric will also use a barge to send vehicles from Oahu, Maui and Hawaii island. The companies are also collaborating to reposition Southern California Edison resources from Hawaii Island and welcome new personnel from California to Kauai.
"Once the storm hit us, and they realized that the biggest impact was Kauai, everybody was asking when we can go. We all know that we're going to help out, and we want to be a part of that restoration effort," said Jason Cosma, Hawaiian Electric superintendent, transmission & distribution operations.
Tropical Storm Lala and Hurricane Lowell
Hawaiian Electric has restored all outages across Oahu, Maui County, and Hawaii island caused by Tropical Storm Lala and Hurricane Lowell. Individual customers still experiencing issues may require repairs to customer-owned electrical components such as wiring, outlets, or equipment, and/or removal of vegetation from individual service lines may be needed before the company can restore service.
