Grande Portage Resources Ltd. Consistently Intersecting Sulphide - Bearing Quartz Veins at Pass Property

· Issued by Grande Portage Resources Ltd. via CNW

VANCOUVER, Sept. 3 /CNW/ - Grande Portage Resources Ltd. (TSX-V GPG) ("Grande Portage" or "the Company") is pleased to announce that it has completed 10 NQ diamond drill holes from three drill setups at its 100% owned gold-silver property near Smithers, B.C.

The initial drill program was designed to focus on the high-grade gold-silver bearing polymetallic quartz veins from which selected grab samples collected in 2007 assayed up to 72.95 g/t gold, 365 g/t silver, 1.218% copper, 29.0% lead and 20.14% zinc. Previous work had outlined a known strike length of almost 1 kilometre.

The primary vein is characterized by strong silicification and sulphide minerals in variable concentrations including pyrite, chalcopyrite, galena and sphalerite, from disseminations to massive sulphide. The vein itself pinches and swells along strike and down dip as evidenced both in the trenches and in drillhole intersections.

Drillhole intersections of the primary quartz vein provided widths from between 0.23m to 3.35m. In some holes more than one vein was intersected. All veins and related mineralization occurs within a silicified and mineralized alteration halo extending 1m to 12.46m in total width. The veins and surrounding alteration are referred to as the vein complex. The sulphide mineralization associated within the alteration halo occurs as disseminations and micro veinlets and is a similar assemblage as the primary veins.

The Phase I drill program tested three drill sites separated over 540 metres; the entire strike length tested is slightly more as a series of fan holes went out from the sites. Two holes, 3 & 9, failed to intersect mineralized vein material. The initial site locations were selected for ease of set-up and to maximize strike exposure. Future drilling will require more detailed work on drill pad construction in order to deal with terrain obstacles and to be more target specific. A complete map of all drillholes, intersections, and surface geology and assay values is being prepared in conjunction with receipt of drillhole assays.

The samples from holes PAS-08-01 to PAS-08-10 have been shipped to the ALS Chemex prep facility in Terrace, BC; final analysis will be done in North Vancouver. Analysis will include ore-grade analyses for gold, silver, copper, lead and zinc.
