GAIL clears investment for 178.2-MW wind project in India's Maharashtra

GAIL (India) Limited has approved an investment of INR17.36bn ( $190mn ) to develop a 178.2-MW greenfield wind power project in Maharashtra . The decision was taken at a meeting of the company’s board of directors on February 27 and subsequently disclosed in regulatory filings with the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE. The proposed project will add 178.2 MW to GAIL’s existing renewable energy portfolio. At present, the company operates 117.95 MW of installed renewable capacity, which it said is running at full utilisation. The new capacity is expected to substantially enhance its footprint in the wind energy segment. The wind farm will be developed as a greenfield project in Maharashtra . GAIL has indicated that the facility is targeted for commissioning within 24 months from the date of award of the lump sum turnkey (LSTK) contract. The capital expenditure of INR17.36bn will be financed through a combination of debt and equity, in line with the company’s broader funding strategy for growth projects.
