G R Infraprojects has been awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract to deliver a battery energy storage system at NTPC’s Mouda super thermal power station in the western Indian state of Maharashtra, marking another step in the country’s efforts to integrate large-scale storage into the power grid, POWERLINE has reported.
The contract, valued at about INR4.88bn ($53.2mn), covers the full scope of work required to design, supply and install the battery storage facility, as well as associated systems needed to integrate the project with the existing power infrastructure at the site. The company said the project is expected to be completed within 15 months, in line with NTPC’s timelines for adding flexible capacity to support grid stability.
Battery energy storage is increasingly seen as a critical component of India’s energy transition, helping to smooth fluctuations from renewable generation and improve reliability during periods of peak demand. For NTPC, the country’s largest power producer, the Mouda project forms part of a broader strategy to pilot storage solutions alongside conventional thermal assets.
For G R Infraprojects, the order adds to its growing portfolio beyond roads and civil infrastructure, highlighting its expansion into power and energy-related EPC work. Analysts noted that successful execution could strengthen the company’s credentials in the fast-emerging energy storage segment.
