VANCOUVER, Dec. 21 /CNW/ - FREEPORT RESOURCES INC. is very pleased to announce details on gravity anomalies identified by Inco's recent airborne gravity survey over our Notakwanon property (23 claims, 575 ha) in Labrador. The survey, a collaborative data-sharing effort with Inco, was highly effective: Three dense bodies have been identified, two of which appear connected at depth and outcrop on either side of a lake. The strongest gravity anomaly appears to be 'deep rooted', with unlimited depth. The U-shaped connection between the two anomalies correlates with the strongest conductive zone identified by an audio-magneto telluric (AMT) survey also by Inco, at approximately 460 metres depth.
The geophysical interpretation was conducted by Dr. Michel Chouteau of Ecole Polytechnique, Montreal. Dr. Chouteau undertook a thorough analysis of the Full Tensor airborne gravity gradiometry (FTG) data provided by Inco's contractor, Bell Geospace of Houston, Texas, in conjunction with airborne magnetic-electromagnetic data collected ten years ago over the extent of Freeport's original property holdings in the area (995 claims, 24,875 ha) - much of which now makes up Inco's well-known "Garland Lake" block, where an extensive drill program commenced in 2006.
Ecole Polytechnique previously conducted an independent review of Inco's AMT data, and has confirmed that the two key AMT anomalies established for follow-up geophysics and/or drill testing coincide with the densest zones identified in the gravity survey. It is of note that reports filed by Inco with Government of NL indicate the area coinciding with the AMT anomaly extending across Freeport's property boundary is locally underlain by troctolitic rocks considered favourable for hosting Voisey's Bay style nickel-sulphide mineralization. (For further information, please see releases dated May 2, September 1 & 23, 2005, Jan. 19, and June 16, 2006).
A detection technique known as the Keating correlation technique has been applied on the aeromagnetic data to identify potential kimberlitic pipes. Two such circular structures located at Notakwanon have a correlation coefficient higher than 85%. These will be field checked in 2007.
The Notakwanon claims are located 30km SE of the Voisey's Bay nickel mine, and entirely enclosed by Inco's Garland Lake property, where drilling commenced late August. The subject of much media attention, Inco initially over-staked Notakwanon in September 2000 and again in summer 2005.
Dr. Michel Chouteau is the Qualified Person who has reviewed this release.
