VANCOUVER, June 6, 2011 /CNW/ - Canadian International Minerals Inc (TSX.V: CIN) is pleased to announce exploration programs have begun on its 100% owned Prairie Lake (PL) and Dead Horse Creek (DHC) properties located approximately 45 km North West of Marathon, Ontario.

An initial 33 rock samples from DHC and 12 from PL have been submitted to Activation Lab's facility in Thunder Bay, Ontario.

Mackevoy Geosciences Ltd. with a crew of two geologists and four field assistants has begun mapping and evaluating over 30 new occurrences of alkaline rocks with significant REE values as well as elevated radiometric signatures at Prairie Lake. They are supported by local personnel engaged in clearing brush, hand trenching, and trail building. All new showings will be prioritized for mechanical trenching and stripping followed by diamond drilling.

This program is based on the model of high grade REE deposits that are known to occur on the periphery of large carbonatite systems such as the adjacent Prairie Lake Carbonatite.

Field evaluation by CIN personnel has concluded that airborne magnetic data obtained by the Ontario Geological Survey (Map 82-085, 2000) are effective in the interpretation of geological structure and generating potential targets. These targets have been confirmed as topographic highs with a strong correlation to the new mineral showings and radiometric anomalies. The high level of exposure and minimal soil or vegetation cover provide ideal conditions for target identification with hand held radiometric equipment and subsequent sampling and evaluation. These conditions, combined with wide areas of heavy glacial deposition have precluded commitment to further costly airborne geophysics for target selection.

The Prairie Lake property (PL) comprises 255 mineral claims in 19 claim blocks covering 4,096 hectares in Killala Lake and Cairngorm Lake Townships, and is readily accessible by the principal Deadhorse Creek mainline logging road, 20 km north of CIN's DHC property and adjacent to its KM 23 property.

DEADHORSE CREEK

Late in 2010, CIN completed approximately 2 km of exploration access to historic trenches that were excavated in 1986 by Unocal (Molycorp), and to previously unexplored radiometric anomalies identified in the 2010 airborne geophysical survey. Work has begun cleaning out the old trenches and extending them prior to systematic sampling. Additional mechanical trenching and stripping is planned for early June, as soon as extremely wet ground conditions diminish. Trenching of the new radiometric anomalies will provide further sites for sampling. Upon location and prioritization of targets, diamond drilling targets will be selected.

The Deadhorse Creek Property (DHC) comprises of 218 mineral claims in 8 blocks covering 1,861 hectares in Grain and Walsh Townships, the southern margin of which lies adjacent to the Trans Canada Highway approximately halfway between the communities of Marathon and Terrace Bay. The property covers favorable geophysical features and geology known to host strategic metals such as Zirconium, Hafnium, Yttrium and Rare Earths.
