In order to ensure transport capacity and achieve greater financial efficiency, in a context of volatility in the maritime transport market, Ecopetrol contracted the third vessel for exclusive use or also known as time charter, this time to transport fuels such as gasoline, naphtha, diesel and jet, in and out of the country.
The High Challenge is a ship of about 50 thousand tons, with the capacity to transport up to 320 thousand barrels of fuel, which contributes to optimizing the logistical cost of supply and will generate savings in transport of more than 46% compared to the regular cost of the international market.
The vessel will move its own fuel production between the ports of Santa Marta, Cartagena and Barranquilla, in addition to guaranteeing the timely arrival of the product imported from the Gulf Coast of the United States, according to supply needs.
The first import will be 300 thousand barrels of gasoline that is expected to arrive in Colombia before the end of May.
Since 2024, the Company has contracted three time charter vessels for the commercialization of products such as fuels, heavy crude oil and liquid asphalt, with 92% efficiency of the time in use.
Ecopetrol works permanently on the development of operational solutions and maritime transport strategies, which allow it to make trips safely, efficiently, within the time windows and under the corresponding regulations.
