TORONTO, Jan. 10 /CNW/ - Route1 Inc.(TM) (TSX-V:ROI) today announced that Citrus and Chemical Bank has deployed the Route1 MobiKEY to ensure its employees have fully encrypted, secure remote access to desktop and network resources. While initially purchased from Route1 as part of the bank's business continuity plan in the event of employee illness, a pandemic or other unforeseen event, award-winning MobiKEY also provides key banking personnel and commercial loan officers with a highly secure way to access desktop computers and the corporate network when away from the office.
"As part of our pandemic planning, we needed to empower our employees to communicate with us and connect to our highly secure network from home while using existing broadband, cable or dial-up connections," said Render Swygert, Executive Vice-President of IS&T for Citrus and Chemical. "That meant finding something that was secure, easy to deploy, and more cost effective than a virtual private network (VPN)."
In examining alternative solutions, Citrus and Chemical was introduced to Route1's MobiKEY by Six X Telecom Corp, an accredited reseller of Route1 products. MobiKEY is a highly secure, ultra-portable solution for reliably connecting users with enterprise applications from any Internet-enabled, Windows-based PC. Powered by Route1's MobiNET service delivery platform for secure identity management, MobiKEY technology is embedded into a smart card-enabled, cryptographic USB device, making it one of the most powerful and easy-to-use secure computing solutions available today.
Citrus and Chemical initially deployed seven MobiKEYs for distribution to IS/IT staff and for emergency use, but that number very quickly grew to 30 once the bank recognized MobiKEY's tremendous value in both contingency planning and for day-to-day use. Today, the bank's IS/IT staff use MobiKEYs in their day-to-day roles to access, manage and support desktops and physical and virtual servers on the network from practically any location. Key banking personnel use it to tap into the network when away from the office, while commercial loan officers use it to log into head office to gather information while at customer sites.
"Having an up-to-date business continuity plan and providing employees with secure access to computing resources are essential for organizations in the financial sector," said Andrew White, CEO of Route1. "MobiKEY not only provides employees with access to resources as needed, but also saves IT costs while keeping networks secure. Organizations no longer need to pay for costly VPNs, and laptops are not required therefore eliminating the loss of customer and other critical data in the event of theft. It is essentially an insurance policy that delivers results every day."
