Changjiuzhou High-Speed Railway Completes Major Bridge Span Over Ganjiang River's South Branch
The Changjiuzhou High-Speed Railway recently achieved a major milestone as the final section of the Nanchang Yangzizhou Ganjiang Highway-Railway Bridge's south branch span was successfully connected. Designed by CRCC, this completion marks the full connection of all three bridge crossings over the Ganjiang River and sets a new world record for high-speed railway bridges.

Stretching 19 kilometers in total, the Nanchang Yangzizhou Ganjiang Highway-Railway Bridge accommodates 14 transportation corridors, including high-speed rail and urban expressways, while spanning three channels of the Ganjiang River. The middle and west branch spans were completed in January and May of this year. The newly completed south branch features a 510-meter total length, a 240-meter main span, and a 108-meter tower height, making it the world's longest single-tower concrete cable-stayed bridge designed for high-speed trains traveling at 350 kilometers per hour.
Given the challenging geometry requiring the railway to cross the waterway at an acute angle, the design team developed an innovative construction solution that balances structural integrity with navigation and flood control requirements. The single-tower cable-stayed design offers superior deck continuity and minimal post-construction settlement-ideal for high-speed rail operations. Its integrated tower-beam-cable-pier load-bearing system also reduces the main beam's height, creating a sleeker, more elegant profile while cutting costs.
The Changjiuzhou High-Speed Railway forms a crucial link in China's "eight vertical, eight horizontal" high-speed rail network, specifically the Beijing-Hong Kong Corridor. Spanning 138 kilometers with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, the line is expected to enter full operation by 2027. Once operational, it will enhance China's high-speed rail infrastructure, strengthen connections between the middle Yangtze River urban cluster and both the Yangtze River Delta and Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and play a vital role in advancing the Yangtze River Economic Belt, modernizing Jiangxi's transportation network, and driving high-quality regional development.
