Carozzi and Copec Flux launch Chile's biggest pv-powered parking lot

· Issued by Carozzi S.a.

Food company Carozzi and energy firm Copec Flux have inaugurated Chile's largest photovoltaic parking lot at the Carozzi Industrial Center in Nos, Santiago Metropolitan Region, featuring 5,000 solar panels across nearly 13,000 square metres.

The $2.6mn project will generate 3.94 GWh annually, covering approximately 5% of Carozzi's current electricity consumption. Construction began in April 2025, with two phases completed and the final phase scheduled for February 2026.

The installation utilises bifacial photovoltaic technology, capturing both direct solar radiation and ground-reflected light while providing covered parking and bus stops for worker protection. 'The incorporation of renewable energy is fundamental to its sustainability strategy,' Santiago Valdés, Carozzi's general manager, was quoted by pv-magazine as saying.

Arturo Natho, Copec's general manager, noted the milestone coincides with the company's 90th anniversary and serves as a potential pilot for scaling to other Carozzi industrial sites nationwide.

Copec Flux has expanded its renewable energy footprint significantly, installing photovoltaic plants at 12 service stations across various municipalities in April 2025, with 1.3 MWp capacity generating nearly 2,000 MWh annually. The company closed 2024 with 119 MWp total installed capacity.

This development reflects Chile's accelerating corporate adoption of renewable energy solutions as companies seek to reduce operational costs and meet sustainability targets. The dual-purpose design demonstrates how businesses can maximise land use efficiency while advancing their environmental objectives, potentially setting a precedent for similar industrial renewable energy projects.
