KELOWNA, BC, Sept. 18 /CNW/ - Cantex Mine Development Corp (CD - TSX Venture Exchange) ("Cantex" or the "Company").
The Company is pleased to report that it has completed its drill program at Wadi Qutabah and commenced drill testing the Suwar nickel-copper-cobalt deposit in its 100% owned exploration license in Yemen.
Wadi Qutabah Nickel-Copper-Cobalt and Platinum Group Elements Project
The commencement of the drill program at Suwar follows the completion of the eleven hole program at Wadi Qutabah.
Previous work at Wadi Qutabah identified 5 flat lying horizons of massive and disseminated sulphide mineralization that outcrop over an area of up to 15 square kilometers. Massive sulphides are seen in outcrop within three of the horizons and vary from 0.2 to 3.0 meters in thickness.
To test the continuity of the flat lying sulphide horizons five vertical holes totaling 685.84 meters were drilled. These five holes intersected a total of 323.80 meters of weak ((less than)10%) disseminated sulphides, 20.08 meters of moderate (10-50%) sulphide mineralization and 6.80 meters of semi massive to massive sulphide mineralization. These mineralized sections will be analyzed for nickel-copper-cobalt and platinum group elements. Cantex geologists are pleased with the extent and continuity of the sulphide mineralization.
Six additional holes were drilled to identify the source of the high platinum group element values found in three heavy mineral stream samples. The highly anomalous samples were from three adjacent streams draining a restricted portion of the Wadi Qutabah area. The six holes were designed to test the stratigraphy of the watershed of the anomalous streams. Several sulphide rich zones were intersected and these will be analyzed to identify anomalous platinum group element horizons.
Suwar Nickel-Copper-Cobalt Project
Dr. Peter Gregory recently visited the Suwar project and after a thorough review of the previous work designed a 17 hole 1920 meter drill program. To date two holes have been drilled on Suwar Hill with the Company's diamond drill rig. These two holes are designed to test the continuity of mineralization within a previously untested fifty meter section of Suwar Hill.
The first hole, Y007-02, was drilled at an inclination of 45 degrees and intersected 5.50 meters of massive to 30% sulphide mineralization from 50.94 meters. This was enveloped in an extensive zone of lesser (1-10%) sulphide mineralization that extended from a depth of 25.90 meters to the end of the hole at 115.20 meters.
The second hole, Y007-13, was drilled at an inclination of 60 degrees and intersected 13.36 meters of elevated sulphide (up to 50% with minor massive sulphide) concentrations from 39.90 meters. Disseminated sulphides (1-12%) were intersected above and below these elevated sulphides from 19.59 meters to the end of the hole at 151.00 meters.
Cantex's geologists are pleased with the continuity of mineralization at Suwar Hill as demonstrated by the first two holes of the program. Of the remaining fifteen holes eleven are designed to evaluate the continuity and extent of mineralization at Suwar Hill while the remaining four holes will test the mineralization along the Suwar mineralized zone. From mid October both of the Company's drills will be committed to the drilling program at Suwar.
Summary
Cantex's geologists are pleased with the intersections obtained with respect to the Wadi Qutabah massive sulphides and anomalous platinum group element areas as well as the massive sulphides at Suwar Hill. To date the intersections have revealed that the massive sulphides intersected at Wadi Qutabah and Suwar demonstrate continuity.
Several major companies have now reviewed the data from Cantex's Yemen projects and have expressed an interest in visiting the project areas to conduct an on site evaluation. These visits will occur after the end of the Ramadan holiday in mid October.
