- Market capitalization increased by almost 50 times, from RON 1.6 bn at the end of 2001 to around RON 74 bn by the end of August 2026
OMV Petrom (SNP) marks 25 years since its listing on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB), a period of significant transformation and long-term value creation for shareholders and for the Romanian economy.
Since 2001, the company's market capitalization increased from RON 1.6 bn to around RON 74 bn. Total shareholder return for the period between end 2001 and the end of August 2026 was more than 5,000%. "Over the past 25 years, OMV Petrom has undergone a profound transformation. We evolved from a predominantly local oil and gas company, into a regional energy company - a reliable supplier of energy for Romania, providing around one third of the country's fuels and natural gas as well as around 10% of its power generation. Today, we continue this transformation with the development of Neptun Deep, the largest natural gas project in the European Union, as well as other investments in the low and zero carbon area. Our objective remains to create long-term value for our shareholders and for the Romanian economy", said Christina Verchere, CEO OMV Petrom.
"We are celebrating 25 years of presence on the Bucharest Stock Exchange of OMV Petrom, one of strongest South-Eastern European companies and the second-largest Romanian issuer by market capitalization. Throughout this period, OMV Petrom has stood as a benchmark for professionalism, combining corporate governance with a continuous commitment to its investors. As a standalone investment or through the seven BVB-listed ETFs tracking indices that include SNP, the SNP share is a natural choice in the portfolios of hundreds of thousands of Romanians. We are confident that a partner of OMV Petrom's caliber in the stock market ecosystem will continue to enhance Romania's development and will open new roads towards progress and more sustainable energy," said Remus Vulpescu, CEO Bucharest Stock Exchange.
Over the 25 years of being on the Bucharest Stock Exchange, approximately 2.3 mn transactions with SNP shares were made. From the moment of listing until August 31, 2026, investors have traded more than 61 bn of SNP shares, worth over RON 26 bn.
OMV Petrom is one of the largest contributors to the state budget, with more than EUR 48 bn in taxes and dividends paid between 2005 and 2025. During the same period, the company invested over EUR 21 bn and has allocated around EUR 210 mn to develop communities in Romania, focusing on environmental protection, education, health, and local development.
As of the end of June 2026, Romanian shareholders held around 46% of the shares (of which the Romanian state held 20.7%, and 25.1% were held by pension funds in Romania, as well as other Romanian natural persons and legal entities). More than half a million of Romanian individuals are, directly, OMV Petrom shareholders, and 8.5 mn indirectly through the local pension funds. OMV Aktiengesellschaft held a 51.2% stake in OMV Petrom, and the remaining 3.0% were held by other foreign investors.
