WOODBRIDGE, ON, July 13 /CNW/ - BSM Technologies Inc, (GPS: TSX-V) (http://www.bsmtechnologies.com) a leading provider of GPS-based AVL secure vehicle and trailer fleet tracking and management solutions, announces the protection of its Intellectual Property for its advanced wireless systems. The new filing before the United States Patent and Trademark Office underscores the company's industry leadership role in wireless technology. BSM Wireless Inc. has recently filed for protection of its Wireless Tractor Trailer Tether System before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. This unique System includes apparatus and the method for monitoring and reporting the tethered or untethered status of a wide variety of assets and has particular application in detecting whether a physical connection exists between the tractor and trailer portion of a vehicle. BSM's unique design of its apparatus permits a virtual universal application to any tractor trailer system utilized in the marketplace. The System incorporates electronic circuitry which enables the apparatus to operate under a very low power mode for extended periods of time thus enhancing the reliability of the monitoring function. The asset tracking device also includes a processor, a location tracking device for detecting the geographic location of the mobile asset and a transceiver for transmitting and receiving the tethered or untethered status of the asset. BSM's System has international application and its recent filing for intellectual property protection paves the way for other international patent applications in other foreign countries of its choosing. In order to provide robust AVL and secure fleet management solutions to the transportation industry, BSM Wireless continues to develop innovative solutions to improve the robustness of asset tracking applications and improve fleet owner's return on investment. The patent pending system provides fleet owners and their dispatchers with real time data on activities and location of their trailers whether powered up, tethered or untethered to their own tractors or to those of other operators. The robust trailer solution provides real time and historical data on the location, activities and status of a trailer, while on customer premises making pickups, deliveries or simply left for loading and unloading. When tethered to a tractor power unit, the trailer solution provides complete vehicle tracking with real time locating, speed, idling, stopping and other data for fleet owner ROI's. "BSM's innovative trailer tracking and tether system is immediately available to change the way fleet owners receive their tracking and utilization information on their trailers and chassis. Apart from this benefit, trailers and chassis when either tethered, powered up or both, will send an alarm to the designated person(s) and/or the monitoring centre to report on the location immediately. Typically, owners were only able to receive location data perhaps four times a day or every few hours. Now, on an occurrence of movement, day or night, they will be notified," said Michael Bookbinder, Director of Sales at BSM Wireless. "Further to the BSM commitment to the transportation industry, this revolutionary trailer and chassis tracking and tethering solution now provides for real time knowledge of where assets were dropped off with 99.9% accuracy and when the unit is tethered, the unit can be monitored in real time. Current solutions only offer unit call-in once or twice per day. In reality, the units could have been moved in between call-in times, or when in a large yard, the operators do not hook up power to the monitoring function. Our competitors' products will not record such movement. BSM's solution has resolved these problems. This contribution to the industry has already been acknowledged by our users and other key members of the transportation sector. We are currently installing the tracking and tethering system on long-haul carrier trailers and return on investment milestones are already being achieved," says Nick Cirella, CEO of BSM Wireless.
