DALLAS, March 23, 2005 - Keith Houser, CEO of BioTech Medics, Inc., (Pink Sheets: BTMD) announced today that BioTech Medics, Inc., has closed on the acquisition of five FHJ Scientific US Letters of Patent and related foreign patents worth at least $1.25 million. The patents cover the proprietary SHBAN (TM) compound solution. Scientific evidence and studies by top medical institutions suggest the unique SHBAN solution may be used in a variety of ways such as aiding the healing of gingivitis or gum disease, wound healing, antiseptic nasal spray, sunburn and burn healing, psoriasis, fungal infections such as athletes foot, eye infections and cuts or abrasions.
"The asset acquisition is a major accomplishment for BTMD and part of our long-term planning. BTMD was able to acquire the patents, which have over 15 years of research and development, for stock in BTMD," said Mr. Houser.
Mr. Delton Carrell, President/CEO of FHJ Scientific indicated at the closing that several reputable organizations have assisted FHJ in the clinical research for the various uses of the SHBAN solution. Such reputable organizations include but are not limited to Baylor College of Dentistry, Dept. of Periodontis & BioMedical Sciences, Dallas, TX; The University of Texas Medical Center/Shriners Burn Institute, Galveston, TX; and the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX. Baylor College of Medicine is a shareholder in FHJ and the patents. Baylor College of Medicine will now become a shareholder in BTMD as a result of the acquisition.
Other notable individuals who have assisted with the SHBAN compound development according to Mr. Carrell include but are not limited to Edward J. Cragoe, Jr., Ph.D.; Robert E. Anderson, M.D., Ph.D., and Roger W. Beuerman, Ph.D. Dr. Cragoe has previously invented or co-invented prescription drugs for Merck. Dr. Anderson is a Professor of Ophthalmology and Director of the Oklahoma Center for Neuroscience at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Centers. Dr. Beuerman is Professor of Ophthalmology, Anatomy & Psychiatry at Louisiana State University College of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. Dr. Cragoe and Dr. Anderson become shareholders in BTMD as part of the FHJ patent asset acquisition by BTMD. Blanca Diez, M.D., Steven Shiver, D.C., Michael Osato, M.D. and John Wolf, M.D. will also become BTMD shareholders associated with the FHJ patent asset acquisition.
Research indicates that up to 30% of the US population may be genetically susceptible to gum disease, according to The American Academy of Periodontology. Currently that would include over 88.7 million Americans. BTMD plans to have a SHBAN derived mouthwash, mint or gum product on the market by fourth quarter this year with a potential of $26 million in annual wholesale sales.
BTMD intends to announce soon the addition of a new advisory board member to assist BTMD in making application for medical research grants for further development of the SHBAN compound solution.
Currently BTMD is the primary distributor for the NeuroLase Medical Laser Device for the temporary reduction of muscular, skeletal and/or arthritic pain. The sale of the NeuroLase Medical Units and certification of qualified medical professionals are two sources of income for BTMD. Additionally BTMD is developing Pain Management & Wellness Centers in the US. The centers will be 1) owned and/or operated by BTMD (subject to individual state statutes), 2) under a management and/or marketing agreement, or 3) under a franchise contract. All three will be sources of revenue for BTMD.
Additional acquisitions are pending and will be announced as they are consummated by BTMD.
