Bajaj Auto shares fall up to 2.5%, become top Nifty loser amid cyberattack involving ransomware

Shares of Bajaj Auto were the top Nifty loser on June 24 a day after the company said a ransomware attack impacted the automaker and its unit Bajaj Auto Technology's systems.

The company said it initiated necessary precautionary actions and protocols to mitigate the impact of the incident, adding that these measures have so far been successful.

"...this is to inform that a cyber security incident has occurred that involve a ransomware attack impacting the systems of Bajaj Auto Limited and its wholly-owned subsidiary, viz. Bajaj Auto Technology Limited," said the company in a stock exchange filing.

"Immediately upon becoming aware of the incident, the technical team of the Company along with cyber security experts and the management responded promptly and initiated necessary precautionary actions and protocols to mitigate the impact of this incident and this has been successful based on the available information at this time," the company added.

"The said incident occurred on 23 June 2026 at around 08:00 a.m. (IST) and has been intimated to CERT-In in terms of the Information Technology Act, 2000," said Bajaj Auto.

At 10:05 am on June 24, Bajaj Auto shares were trading 2.1% lower at Rs 9,809 apiece.

Wednesday, June 24, is the record date for Bajaj Auto's Rs 5,632-crore share buyback.

Investors who held Bajaj Auto shares at the close of trading on Tuesday, June 23, will be eligible to participate in the buyback. The company will determine eligible shareholders based on its records as of the record date.

Bajaj Auto had announced the buyback alongside its March quarter results. Under the proposal, the company will repurchase up to 46.94 lakh equity shares at a price of Rs 12,000 apiece through the tender offer route.

The proposed buyback size represents 1.68% of the company's total outstanding equity shares.
