Aperam announces state-of-the-art Titanium Solids Center of Excellence in New York, U.S.
Luxembourg, 30 July, 2026 (15:00 CEST) - Aperam, a global player in stainless, electrical, alloys and specialty steel, as well as recycling and renewables, today announced the establishment of a new Titanium Solids Center of Excellence in Frankfort, New York, U.S. The center will be part of ELG Utica Alloys, which is currently adopting the Aperam Recycling brand ahead of its formal renaming to Aperam Recycling Advanced Metals in the second half of 2026.
The new facility is being created to support growing demand for recycled titanium materials from the aerospace industry, strengthen service to domestic U.S. customers, and enhance supply capabilities for international markets.
Strategically located in Frankfort, New York, the Center of Excellence will leverage strong synergies with ELG Utica Alloys' existing Herkimer operations, creating a more integrated and efficient regional footprint through optimized material flows, shared expertise, and enhanced operational flexibility. The facility will also include significant investment in proprietary automation technologies and productivity-focused infrastructure to strengthen logistics capabilities, accelerate turnaround times, and deliver the high quality standards required by the aerospace and defense sectors.
Jan Hofmann, Chief Executive Officer of Aperam Recycling and Services & Solutions Americas, commented: "This investment reflects Aperam's strong commitment to the titanium solids business and further enhances Aperam Recycling Advanced Metals' position as a trusted partner to the aerospace industry. As aerospace demand is expected to grow over the coming decade, we see increasing opportunities for recycled titanium to support more resilient and sustainable supply chains through high-quality material solutions with lower processing intensity and reduced associated CO₂ emissions."The new Center of Excellence follows the planned closure of the Titanium Solids operations in Hartford last year and forms part of a broader strategic realignment to optimize Aperam Recycling Advanced Metals' operational footprint, increase efficiencies, and support long-term growth. It also complements ongoing improvements in the Titanium Turnings division.
The facility is expected to be fully operational by January 1, 2027, and will further strengthen Aperam Recycling's global network, customer service capabilities, and sustainable growth strategy.
