[Speaker identities could not be resolved; generic labels used] [00:10] Speaker 1: Battery metals are receiving a lot of attention these days. Tell me why we should be paying attention to nickel? [00:17] Speaker 2: Good morning, Holly. That's a good question. [00:19] Speaker 2: Nickel is an important component in lithium-ion batteries because it is the the part of a cathode that holds the electrons that are released [00:28] Speaker 2: through the [00:30] Speaker 2: through lithium into the anode. So nickel is something that people are looking at because it can hold more atoms than other metals, which gives lithium ion batteries and EVs the range that they're looking for. [00:41] Speaker 1: Can you talk about EV battery production [00:44] Speaker 1: in North America [00:46] Speaker 1: versus [00:47] Speaker 1: what's happening in Europe and China? [00:49] Speaker 2: Yeah, absolutely. [00:51] Speaker 2: So EV battery production in North America is very limited. Aside from Tesla and Panasonic, the gigafactory that they have, [00:59] Speaker 2: there's no real significant EV battery production in North America because North America has been a little bit late in adopting EVs aside from Tesla. [01:08] Speaker 2: China is the world leader in EV battery production and I believe they they produce 60 or 65 percent of all the EV batteries in the world And Europe has really started to accelerate their EV battery production because [01:20] Speaker 2: European countries have adopted this [01:23] Speaker 2: carbon neutral, [01:25] Speaker 2: no internal combustion engine policy fast, so a lot of companies are starting to invest in EV battery production in Europe. So really you've got China the leader and Asia the leader and you've got Europe coming up very quickly and they're insta...
