This is Vieja, the world's first industrial scale fertilizer plant developed and operated by ATOM, powered entirely by renewable energy. Today, nearly 4,000,000,000 people rely on nitrogen fertilizer to grow the food they eat each day. As the global population continues to grow, agriculture must produce more food than ever before in the decades ahead. But fertilizer production also contributes significantly to global greenhouse gas emissions. The challenge is clear. We must feed a growing world while reducing environmental impact. That journey begins here at Vieira. Located in Paraguay at the heart of Latin America, ATOM's Vieta plant sets a new benchmark for sustainable fertilizer production powered by renewable baseload energy from the 14 gigawatt Itaipu hydropower plant, the facility produces low carbon calcium ammonium nitrate fertilizer at industrial scale. The production process starts with Kasale's technologies. Everything begins with clean energy. Renewable electricity powers electrolyzers that produce green hydrogen. Hydrogen is then combined with nitrogen from the air to produce green ammonia, the backbone of the entire fertilizer production process. The ammonia is then converted into nitric acid through a carefully controlled process designed to maximize efficiency and minimize emissions. Nitric acid is then combined with ammonia to form ammonium nitrate solution, defining product quality and ensuring safe and reliable operation. Finally, after mixing with dolomite and through the processes of evaporation, granulation and drying, the product is turned into calcium ammonium nitrate fertilizer.
