RIMOUSKI, Sept. 6 /CNW Telbec/ - Petrolia (PEA - TSXV), Petrolia is proud to announce the commencement of the PEA-1 well, designed to test and produce oil. Petrolia's strategy of concentrating on shallow hydrocarbon targets will enable additional wells to be drilled within the exploration budget of $2.4 million, at a rate of $500,000 per well. Depending on the nature of the trap, the presence or absence of commercial hydrocarbons can be determined with one well, or in more complex cases by several wells. DESCRIPTION OF PEA-1 WELL The PEA-1 well will be drilled on permit 2002PG660, situated on public suface lands a few Kms from Gaspe. Previous exploration, consisting of ten very shallow wells drilled over a century ago have confirmed the presence of high-quality light oil. The abandonment of these wells was due to the inadequate technology of those times. Recently, the drilling of the Galt3 / Junex well has indicated the presence of high quality oil and serves to confirm Petrolia's exploration efforts in this area. The current advanced state of oil exploration technology and the economic potential of the area could result in an increase of hydrocarbon exploration in the Gaspe Peninsula. With an API of greater than 40, any oil recovered would be classified as "light sweet crude". PEA-1 OBJECTIVE PEA-1's principal objective is to confirm the presence of oil in a reservoir located at the base of a Devonian sandstone unit at a depth of 700 metres. This stratigraphic unit is regionally extensive and hosts important oil reserves in the Appalachian basins of Pennsylvania, Virginia and New York. The second objective will be to test for the presence of porous and permeable hydrothermal dolomitic breccias at the top of a Devonian limestone unit located at a depth of 1,000 metres. This type of host rock commonly contains major concentrations of oil worldwide. Petrolia is now positioned to be an important player in Quebec's oil and gas exploration industry. Technical programs conducted to date by industry and government clearly establish the hydrocarbon potential of the Gaspe Peninsula. The commencement of PEA-1 establishes Petrolia as an aggressive exploration player in the region.
