Vietnam stocks fall 5.5% to 1,636, lowest close in a month

Vietnam's main stock index HOSE:VNINDEX fell 5.5% to 1,636 on Monday, its lowest closing level in a month. Shares were sold across the board, led by stock broker SSI Securities HOSE:SSI, which fell 6.99%, steel maker Hoa Phat HOSE:HPG, which was down 6.96%, and Saigon Thuong Tin Bank, which ended down 6.95%. More than 1.7 billion shares valued at 53 trillion dong ($2.01 billion) were traded on the Hochiminh Stock Exchange during the session. ($1 = 26,344 dong)
