BP's fuel station operator in Indonesia said on Friday that it has imported base fuel via a unit of Indonesia's state energy firm Pertamina, restocking supplies after a shortage that has plagued private retailers in Southeast Asia's largest economy.BP LSE:BP. Indonesia operator BP-AKR, along with Shell LSE:SHEL, said they have been suffering inventory shortages for some gasoline products since late August.BP-AKR said it had imported the base fuel for some of its gasoline through Pertamina's retail unit Pertamina Patra Niaga on the directive of the government, adding that the supply had fulfilled fuel standards and other commercial conditions."Procurement of imported base fuel through a government-set mechanism is a temporary solution ... taken by BP AKR carefully, and responsibly," the company said in a statement, adding the imports showed its long-term investment commitment to Indonesia. BP-AKR also asked Pertamina to produce a certificate of origin for the fuel to prove it was not sourced from sanctioned producers, but it has not been made available, BP-AKR chief Vanda Laura said.Pertamina has a stronghold in fuel retail although Indonesia formally ended its monopoly in 2004.However, some demand began shifting to privately-run petrol stations due to restrictions on sales of subsidised fuels and follo...
