Net Interest Income Net interest income for the second quarter of 2023 decreased by $0.8 million, or 1.9% compared to the first quarter of 2023. Interest income and interest expense increased in the quarter by $2.5 million and $3.3 million, respectively. The increase in interest income was primarily driven by higher interest rates and loan growth. Accretion income increased by $0.1 million in the quarter to $0.5 million. Interest expense increased primarily from higher rates and balances on deposits, partially offset by less borrowings. In comparison to the second quarter of 2022, net interest income decreased $4.5 million, or 9.5%.
