In particular, the decline in\naircraft movements as well as airfreight and airmail continued to slow\nslightly.\n\n\n\n Aircraft movements dropped only 4.4 percent year-on-year to\n40,666 takeoffs and landings. With 146,259 metric tons in May 2009, FRA's\nairfreight slowdown narrowed to 17.1 percent. At 2.37 million metric tons,\nmaximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) were only 4.8 percent below the comparable\nmonth last year. FRA served a total of 4.4 million passengers last month,\ndown 6.3 percent year-on-year.\n\n\n\n Traffic decline rates also shrank over the entire\nJanuary-to-May 2009 period. A total of 19.6 million passengers resulted in a\ncumulative loss of 8.6 percent. Airfreight throughput reached 674,258 metric\ntons, down 22.5 percent for the first five months of the year. With 187,770\ntakeoffs and landings, aircraft movements dropped 6.0 percent below the\nprevious year's level. Punctuality of takeoffs and landings reached an\naverage level of 83.7 percent for the January-to-May 2009 period. This was\npartially due to optimization of operational procedures carried out in \ncooperation with the airlines and air traffic control.\n\n\n\n Fraport's majority-owned airports registered differing traffic\nfigures for the reporting month. Passenger traffic at Peru's Lima Airport\n(LIM) advanced by 4.2 percent to 703,322 year-on-year, while the travel\nseason was restrained at Turkey's Antalya Airport (AYT) and the Bulgarian\nairports of Burgas (BOJ) and Varna (VAR). AYT registered 844,919 passengers,\na decline of 10.6 percent compared to May 2008. On the Black Sea coast, BOJ\nreceived 80,252 passengers (down 20.7 percent) and VAR 84,733 passengers\n(down 17.2 percent).\n\n\n\n The Group's airports welcomed a total of about 6.2 million\npassengers in May 2009, down 6.2 percent year-on-year.\n\n\n\n Print-quality photos of Frankfurt Airport and Fraport AG are\navailable free for downloading via the Internet at http://www.fraport.com\n(Menu: select Press Center > then Photo Service).
