[{"type":"text","content":"\n \n\n\n\nFRANKFURT, Germany, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- New historic peak figures \ncharacterized Frankfurt\nAirport's (FRA) traffic development in May 2008: The 4.7 million passenger\nmark was exceeded for the first time in a May month. Airfreight throughput\nalso exceeded the previous May record level of about 170,000 metric tons.\n\n\n\n The number of passengers rose last month by 1.6 percent to\n4,742,024. This underscores the continuing traffic dynamics at FRA, even with\nlast year's high statistical base figures. Airfreight even achieved a 3.9\npercent surge in traffic to 176,369 metric tons. Despite a slight 0.6 percent\ndecline in aircraft movements to 42,517 takeoffs and landings, accumulated\nmaximum takeoff weights (MTOWs) advanced by 1.9 percent to 2,485,644 metric\ntons. Thus, FRA continued its trend towards bigger aircraft and a higher seat\nload factor.\n\n\n\n A total of 21,457,625 passengers used Frankfurt Airport from\nJanuary to May 2008 - representing a 2.8 percent year-on-year rise.\nAirfreight throughput grew in the same time period by 4.5 percent to 870,160\nmetric tons, while airmail slipped slightly by 0.8 percent to 37,484 metric\ntons. With 199,652 takeoffs and landings during the first five months of the \nyear, aircraft movements reached the same level as in the previous year. \nMTOWs, since the beginning of 2008 climbed by 2.2 percent to 11,614,063 \nmetric tons.\n\n\n\n The Fraport Group's six majority-owned airports registered a\nnoticeable upward trend in all traffic categories. In May 2008, total\npassenger traffic reached nearly seven million - 5.6 percent more than in the\nsame month last year. Antalya Airport (up 25.6 percent) and Lima Airport (up\n11.7 percent) achieved particularly vibrant growth. From January to May 2008,\n28,984,811 passengers used the Fraport Group's airports, an increase of 4.1\npercent.\n\n\n\n With 208,199 metric tons (up 5.2 percent) in May 2008, the\nGroup's cargo figures also showed markedly positive development. In\nparticular, tonnage at Frankfurt-Hahn Airport rose by more than 28 percent\nand at Lima Airport by 12 percent. In the first five months of the year,\ncargo throughput increased by 6.9 percent to more than one million metric\ntons.\n\n\n\n Print-quality photos of Frankfurt Airport and Fraport AG are\navailable free for downloading via the Internet at htt...
