(\"Whitecap\" or the \"Company\") (TSX: WCP) is pleased to announce that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (\"MOU\") with Federated Co-operatives Limited (\"FCL\") to use Whitecap's expertise in carbon capture utilization and storage (\"CCUS\") to assist FCL in achieving their emissions targets in\n \n Saskatchewan\n \n .\n \n \n The MOU contemplates the capture of CO\n \n 2\n \n by FCL from the Co-op Refinery Complex in\n \n Regina\n \n and the Co-op Ethanol Complex near\n \n Belle Plaine, Saskatchewan\n \n , which would then be compressed, transported and sequestered by Whitecap (the \"FCL Project\").\n \n Carbon\n \n dioxide sequestration will be performed by Whitecap as part of the\n \n Weyburn\n \n unit CO\n \n 2\n \n Enhanced Oil Recovery (\"EOR\") operations or by injecting into a new saline storage facility.\n \n \n The resulting infrastructure and CO\n \n 2\n \n supply handling capability would support\n \n Weyburn\n \n unit expansions as well as enable other operators to pursue greenfield CO\n \n 2\n \n EOR operations in\n \n Southeast Saskatchewan\n \n . Further, this project enables the potential for significant investment in carbon capture at other industrial sites in the\n \n Belle Plaine\n \n ,\n \n Moose Jaw\n \n and\n \n Regina\n \n areas.\n \n \n As operator, Whitecap currently sequesters 2 million tonnes of CO\n \n 2\n \n annually in the\n \n Weyburn\n \n unit, and the FCL Project supports the capture of nearly 500,000 tonnes of additional industrial CO\n \n 2\n \n emissions per year. The\n \n Weyburn\n \n unit is the world's largest anthropogenic carbon sequestration project, having stored over 36 million tonnes of CO\n \n 2\n \n since its first injection in the year 2000.\n \n \n \"The pathway to a lower carbon economy is through carbon capture and we...
