Integrating math and science - we are\nfocused on “the triple bottom line”: people, profit and the\nplanet. A successful modern mine must have all three.\n \n \n \n \n In collaboration with the geologists, engineers and\noperational staff, we work on drill plans, ventilation systems,\nmine-to-mill integrations, optimization, sustainability and cost\nestimates – everything a profitable mine needs to safely tick\nover.\n \n \n \n \n I am now a proud Canadian. I grew up in the interior of\nSouth Africa, cut my teeth in the ultra-deep gold mines. Starting my\nshift at 4:30 a.m. I went three vertical kilometers down the mine\nshaft to drill and charge holes.\n \n \n \n \n South Africa initiated some of the world’s best\nmining practices. It was a valuable training ground that has informed\nmy approach to the West Red Lake Gold project.\n \n \n \n \n The gold veins in the Red Lake District create an\ninteresting challenge, in that they are almost vertical.  They\nundulate wildly along strike, like snaking rivers.  If you\n \n \n try to follow them without a detailed map, the\nveins seem to “disappear”.  When the previous operators realised\nthe vein was missing, they’d continue for another two or three cuts\nwith no gold, which ultimately made the operation sub-economic.\n \n \n \n \n With a renewed understanding of the ore-body, we now\nknow the vein does not disappear and we can more easily pick up the\nelusive trail.\n \n \n \n \n Those undulations might not have to be mined\nselectively, which would res...
