VISUALMED RECEIVES TOP RATING FOR ITS CPOE SYSTEM.

PRESS RELEASE From: VisualMED Clinical Systems Corp. Contact: VisualMED Alain Pr?vost Tel.: (514) 274-1272, x. 216 VISUALMED RECEIVES TOP RATING FOR ITS CPOE SYSTEM. VisualMED Clinical Information System includes new application called Doctors' and Nurses' Notes. Montreal, July 31, 2003 - VisualMED Systems (OTC BB: VSMD) Five Rights Consulting issue of its report titled "Medication safety Tools: Evaluation of Vendor Offerings" reviewing nine CPOE vendors (Computerized Physician Order Entry) found VisualMED to have "Best in Class" functionality. Five Rights Consulting Inc. (www.5rights.com) is a San Diego, CA-based independent consulting firm led by Richard Kremsdorf, MD, a former vice president of clinical information systems for Catholic Healthcare West. Dr. Kremsdorf published his first report in March of 2001. In the original report only five vendors were reviewed. Five Rights second report released last year included an 89 page review and compared eight vendor's systems including products of Baxter Healthcare's Autros Division, Cerner Corp., Epic Systems Corp., GE Medical Systems, IDX Systems Corp., Per-Se Technologies Inc., Eclipsys and VisualMED. This year's report reviews nine vendors and ten total system offerings. VisualMED once again was rated number one in the "high-priority" criteria category. The report defines "high-priority" capabilities as those most likely to have a large, favorable impact on patient safety, financial savings and the work processes of caregivers. "We are delighted once again to be an acknowledged leader in providing hospitals a clinical tool that reduces medication errors and increases patient safety," says G?rard Dab, co-founder and Chairman of VisualMED. "This is not the first time that we have been singled out as a leader in the industry. This could have a positive impact on the more than 10 contract negotiations currently underway." While many of the vendors have increased their scoring, VisualMED continues to score strongly and maintain its statistically significant lead in the area of critical, "High Priority" functionality. VisualMED has recently integrated Doctors' and Nurses' Notes functionality into its state-of- the-art Clinical Information System. Notes can be generated as both coded content menu-driven, or as free text. Physicians may prefer to enter their notes using a computer tablet stylus and this can be done as well. The application handles all three types of data entry. A key strength of our system is that it is able to use the coded notes, including physical examination details, as part of its order entry decision support. This feature is an important addition to the existing 24 levels of decision support which are already active. "The clinical market place and physicians in particular have requested that such functionality be part of our Clinical Information System", says Mr. Dab. " VisualMED Doctors' and Nurses' Notes was tailored to the needs identified by the three hospitals in Qu?bec that are looking at installing VisualMED Clinical Information System in their establishments." The VisualMED Enabled Clinical Process VisualMED is an expert system that enables the physician to make informed diagnoses and therapeutic decisions better and faster. It replaces the paper-based medical record on the hospital ward while integrating information from a variety of traditional sources. It effectively improves the quality of patient care by minimizing the impact of medication and other treatment errors and reducing healthcare costs. The VisualMED solution compares very favourably against its closest competition in the areas of speed, user-friendliness, time to install and price. In a report commissioned by the Leapfrog Group (www.leapfroggroup.org) on CPOE vendors in the Healthcare Information Technology marketplace, nine clinical decision support criteria were proposed and evaluated by First Consulting Group. The VisualMED Clinical System was found to have rich functionality in 100% of the categories reviewed, a claim that could only be made by an additional two of the thirteen vendors evaluated. VisualMED Profile VisualMED Clinical Systems Corporation (www.vmedsys.com) is publicly traded over the counter on Pink Sheets (VSMD). It develops and distributes software solutions for clinical medicine and related areas of the healthcare market and has facilities in Montreal. The VisualMED clinical systems are actively distributed in Canada and the United States. The company has also signed a distribution deal with Visual Healthcare based in Australia to distribute its Clinical Information System in Australia, New-Zealand and Singapore.
