We know that\nwomen with heart disease, particularly congenital (from birth) heart\ndisease have an increased risk of poor pregnancy outcomes. This Heart\n& Stroke Foundation of Canada funded research will explore the\ncontribution of inadequate heart function (use of Ventripoint) and\nvascular health and their interaction to adverse pregnancy outcomes.\nUse of the Ventripoint system will facilitate cardiac function\ninvestigations even in women with more challenging heart geometry. It\nis anticipated this innovative work will lead to improved strategies\nto optimize the cardiovascular health of these mothers leading to\nhealthier pregnancies and infants.”\n \n \n \n \n Dr. Jonathan Windram, Co-investigator stated “We are\ngrateful to Ventripoint for their continued support. The Ventripoint\nsystem has been proven to assess ventricular volumes and systolic\nfunction in patients with a variety of cardiac conditions and we are\nexcited to have the ability to use this technology within our\nstudy.”\n \n \n \n \n Cardiovascular disease complicates 1-4% of pregnancies\nand is more common in women with hypertensive disorders, which is the\nleading cause of maternal death (\n \n \n Ramlakhan,\nK.P., Johnson, M.R. & Roos-Hesselink, J.W,\n \n \n 2020). One of the areas of focus for the study will be looking at the\nvascular and ventricular function in pregnant women with\ncardiovascular disease.\n \n \n \n \n A combination of vascular measuring techniques and\nheart assessments will be used to understand vent...
